Wonder Woman Wows

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who yells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

I remember seeing this shortly after it was released in cinemas. The following weekend, I was given the choice of seeing it again. I decided to see it a second time. One part of my “criteria” was that, with hardly knowing anything about the character, I would walk out of the theater, understanding everything that went on. I was happy to say, that yes, I could understand everything.

Now, to talk about the main character, Wonder Woman. I’m not sure about her comic book origin story, but I really like how they decided to have her as a naïve superhero, Wonder Woman thinks that the world is just black and white; that mankind is fighting each other all because of Ares (the main villain). But, as she comes to understand, she sees that mankind isn’t a simple race.
Steve Trevor is the main character. He guides WW around WW1 and teaches her the ways of mankind. Sure, he is the love interest, but I like how they didn’t make him useless, or not have the ability to fight back.

My final character is the main antagonist, Ares. When Wonder Woman killed the main suspect for Ares, I was very confused. Sure, the person who ended up being Ares probably wasn’t the best choice, but that happens in many movies. I think that his motives for destroying mankind were a bit weak and could’ve just… been better. I like how he tried to trick and lure WW into helping him, as I think that is something most villains need to be: manipulative.

The plot is your basic action movie plot: save the world from someone/something destroying them or it. However, even though Ares was controlling mankind, he was forcing them to fight each other. I liked what Steve told Wonder Women, “maybe mankind is just like that.” Out of everything in the movie, I find that small speech to be the most powerful pieces in the movie.

Some people say that the CGI wasn’t very good, but honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference. I think that there was bit too much slow-motion in the fight scenes. The music, however, was amazing, especially the theme. When the credits roll, the Wonder Woman theme just seems that more powerful.

The overall movie is great, but like most, it does have its flaws. I definitely recommend you catch it if you haven’t already, as I’m sure you’ll enjoy it just as much as I did.
