William Berry, a varsity boys basketball player, is becoming known throughout the school for his talents on the court. Though his name is starting be heard throughout the halls of Rich Central, he does not let the little fame he does have interfere with his training.

“I train really hard. I go as hard as I can to get to the next level. I sometime often find training a bit more difficult time after time, but I am up for the challenge,” says Berry.

He also states, “It feels great to be known throughout school. It shows great character and talent.”

For a student to be known around his school for just one sport must have been playing for a very long time. Berry says that around second grade he started playing and that he really was infatuated with the sport: “Around second grade I started playing the sport.  Basketball was very attractive to me, especially as a child. After seeing so many games with Kobe Bryant playing, he really inspired me.”

“I believe that before you actually can be an athlete, you need to be a student,” he continues, “because if your grades look like garbage, you can’t play. No matter how good you play, if your grades aren’t up to par, you can’t play.”

Despite school life, outside of school William says that some of his younger siblings look up to him. “A couple of my cousins started to play basketball because of me,” he says. “Whenever I played they would ask if they could come along and play or they would often ask me to teach them.”

William is an excellent student and player, but he does not plan on going to the NBA. “I don’t plan on going to the NBA, but if the opportunity comes, I would love to go,” he muses.
