The Poetry Corner
As a recurring feature, The Uproar will publish poetry written by students in Rich Township. Our first feature is a poem by Julienne Sanchez, a junior at the FAC and a staff reporter at The Uproar.
Placebo
By design, the man was a goner
The weight of the world upon his shoulders
Like a boulder pressed upon his back
An eternal hell to be passed to his unborn children
Come his final hour, when fate’s mercy surrounds him
But those high above in the skies speak to him
And their lies fill his mind like medicine
Hope comes at the expense of the world’s bitter truths
Their therapeutic deception seeps into his soul
Energizing him in his youthful naiveté
Though it does nothing more than a placebo
Filled with sweet sugar and false promises
And so it is such a shame, when there comes that day
The man stands on one leg
Broken but proud
A parcel of kindness and love
To those who empowered him
Despite his inevitable, brutal fate
Knowing they never cared in the end, anyway
His children stand with the same weight he carried
The boulder just as heavy
As they make the long, impossible climb
One they would pass on again in time
The people of the sky watch them again
They laugh and cheer on
Telling their lies
And watching them die once more
Feeding their empty wills
With promise pills
As they do their menial chores
Never knowing in life
Of the invisible strife
Keeping them shackled
Knowing nothing more
