Video game fans were given the perfect Christmas present when Sonic 3 premiered in theaters on December 20th. Considering how it dominated the box offices, leaving Mufasa as only a whisper in the wind, I think it’s safe to say that Sonic 3 was the most successful out of the trilogy and a new personal favorite of mine.
Even if you know nothing about Sonic, the movies are a great place to start!
Loosely based on the game plot of Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic 3 follows team Sonic as they are sent on a mission to capture the mysterious new hedgehog wreaking havoc. It’s a fight of speed vs. power as we watch Sonic go up against his greatest foe yet.
The action in this movie goes to the next level as each fight scene left me hyped up and on the edge of my seat. The film knows just how to counteract its high-speed action and comedy with just as effective slow and emotional scenes. These moments in the movie really allow the audience to connect with the characters and understand their motives.
Here’s what your fellow peers have to say about the movie:
“It’s honestly straight peak, the cgi, the music, It was all peak. Perfect movie of the year. It was absolute perfection.”
Another had to say:
“I liked it, it was good. The ending was a bit sad but I enjoyed it!”
This film was truly a love letter to all Sonic fans, written by fans for fans. The passion put into this film flows through every scene as you can tell all who worked on it had a great time. From multiple video game references to even one of the franchise’s most popular songs playing during the final act of the movie, fans of the blue blur will have a lot to look forward to during this film. 8/10 stars
