The Fight Craze

In-school confrontations not worth for all students

Recently, students having been dealing with yelling, staggered dismissals, no pass days, stampedes, and hallways as clogged as a toilet. All of this is a result of recent student fighting. Why were a lot of people feeling the need to fight in the past few weeks?

I see no point in fighting at school because all it does is cause problems for everyone else. If you have a problem with someone, try to find another way to deal with that problem.

“Fighting at school is not worth it,” claimed senior Reggie Slaughter.

Fighting during school just makes the day worse for all students because then everyone has to deal with quite a few unnecessary consequences. Students do not like dealing with lectures from the principal over the intercom for morning announcements, having staggered dismissals, no pass days, and many of the other consequences.

Junior Morghann Hughes stated, “I think it’s ignorant of people to fight because they know the consequences of what happens when they fight.”

When students get into a fight they can be suspended for five or ten days. That is either one week out of school or two and a student could miss a lot during this time.

Even students who are not involved in the fight and are just watching cause problems.

Another junior who wished to remain anonymous stated, “When students stop to watch a fight they are only instigating it and bringing more attention to them. Also, it makes it harder for everyone else to get to class.” These students also risk facing consequences such as, suspension or detention,  just to watch a fight.

When students fight they don’t really think about all the effects of their actions. In their heads they are more than likely not thinking straight and are just seeing red because that person did something to them.

Junior Krystal Smith stated, “Students fight because they can’t find another way to handle the situation.” If students stopped to think about the situation then there probably wouldn’t be so many fights.

When students and administrators come to school they do not want to have WWE in the hallways or lunchroom smack-downs. They just want to have a peaceful day. That’s not too much to ask for, is it?
