The Poetry Corner
Matchstick

Like a twig, little like a matchstick

Ready to be snapped
Nature is an unfair force, is it not?
Yet he stands like a big man
Head high, shoulders tall
His lies are noble lies
Dishonesty tied with the image of a truthful man
But do not be fooled
For his fragility is a struggle
Separate from his undying strength
Perhaps his weakness lies in this facade
He is not untouchable; he has been touched before
By the desires of those
Whom he spoke to with rigid respects
The barrier, then, is not in his size
But in the walls that surround him
He is caged, like the animal he is
Yet he is untamed, like the predator he is not
In his indifference lie his regrets and sorrows
His sorrows become a suffering silence
And he loses his humanity, but only for a moment
But, you see, a moment is adequate
This animal must break free
His fragility is a struggle
Separate from his undying strength
He is like a twig, little like a matchstick

Ready to start a fire
