On the night of August 20th, a group of kids were honored with seeing the “King of Pop” himself perform his most iconic songs during an exciting production of MJ The Musical at the Nederlander Theater downtown.
The show focuses on the lead-up to Jackson’s Dangerous World Tour, with his most famous hits playing in between scenes of his team getting ready. As the pressure begins to set in on Jackson and his team, we get flashbacks of his childhood and earlier aspects of his career.
I feel like the play definitely suffers from some pacing issues, specifically regarding the abrupt ending the musical comes to. Without spoiling too much, It feels like there isn’t a true climax for the story because of this. In addition, some of the performers were lacking a bit when it came to some of the musical numbers, but it’s not to the point where it was constantly distraction. Nonetheless, when it comes to MJ The Musical, I’d say the musical is a must-see for any Michael Jackson fans. Flaws aside, I would rate this musical 7/10 stars!
