More and more teens are facing mental health issues. It is important to care for yourself and know when to get professional help when needed. We must destigmatize mental illnesses and normalize mental health care for all young people.
On this upcoming World Mental Health Day, on October 10th, take a minute to check in on yourself. Self care is important especially as many teens face pressure to balance many different demands they face.
Here are things you can do to stay well:
- Develop a positive daily routine. Learning to carve out a schedule is necessary and it will ease stress. By planning out your day, you will be able to be less stressed and ready to face what comes at you.
- Exercise. Working out can come in many forms, all of which help ease anxiety and depression
- Meditate. Many free apps are available and just 10 minutes of meditation can help relieve stress
- Get a good amount of sleep. We know as teens sleep is important, so make sure you are getting enough!
- Put down your phone. This one can be difficult because, FOMO. But try it, you will feel refreshed and may want to do it more often.
- Communicate with friends and family. Think of true friends like your own personal therapy. And remember you only need a few true ones to make a huge positive impact on your life.
