On the night of February 27th, a handful of Rich Township AP students were given a sweet treat by attending a performance of Waitress at Paramount Theater.
Based on the 2007 film, the musical Waitress focuses on southern waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna Hutcherson, as she’s stuck in a loveless and abusive marriage with her husband. Upon finding out she is pregnant with his child, she attempts to enter a pie-baking contest in order to use the prize money to get away from it all, but can baking truly solve all her problems?
Despite the play’s mature themes, it still successfully manages to get those rom-com vibes across and is an overall charming production to see on stage. Students were in for a fun surprise at the concession stand during intermission to find Jenna’s very own signature pies for sale.
Overall, Waitress was a heartwarming story mixed with some catchy music and some sugar on the side to create an unforgettable experience for all who attended.
9/10 stars.
